Overall Personality: Nicodemus is, first and foremost, very much an intellectual. He is not a genius, but he is very smart, although most of his talent lies in doing things rather than thinking them through. Nicodemus learns through trial and error and tends to do something before actually figuring out what will logically happen if he does it. Nicodemus stumbles through real life and rockets through his work. All in all, Nicodemus's brilliant, but it takes a very particular type to fully appreciate him instead of just slowly walking away after he's gotten distracted by an idea and forgotten what he was saying to you before.

He is highly ambitious and possessed of an ability to work. A degree of his own privileged upbringing plays strongly into this drive, and as a young man, he often refuted people's surprise about his career choices by claiming his parents were wealthy and possessed the noble title, not him. He wanted to prove himself and holds many upper-class witches and wizards in low regard if they don't intend to break a sweat. But though his job takes up a good deal of his time and energy, his family is of the utmost importance to him. Nicodemus has no regrets about the choices his family made to reach this point in their lives, but the happiest times for him are those when the little family are reunited on weekends and holidays. For them, and for his dearest friends, Nicodemus would lay down everything, as those nearest to him lie at the center of a trigger that never fails to induce anger when pressed. Threats to their safety are met not with his typical, slowly building, menacing anger, but an outright explosion of rage.

That said, for the people he does choose to know well -his family, occasional colleagues, ex-school friends- he can be the man everyone remembers like flicking on a light switch: something seems to change within him, and the old, joking, laughing Nicodemus returns. Capable of (almost) matching his sisters’ penchant for occasional mischief, he has been known to play practical jokes on his family, and even members of the Hogwarts staff from time to time. It is a warm kind of humour, based on the kindness inherent to Nicodemus’s existence, one that promotes inclusive fun – rarely, if ever, will a person hear him telling jokes based on someone he knows.

Overall Family Dynamics: The Meadowes family is a close knit group. Alphard was a loving and doting father and Rebecca was a sweet and gentle mother and wife. Nic and Cas get along rather well and never truly had the rivalries and fights siblings tend to.

Nici has a very large and rather varied extended family most of which she has no blood relation to. They all treat each other like family though and are a close and fairly supportive group.

History: Nicodemus was born on Boxing Day in 1961, the second child of Alphard and Rebecca along with being the only son and the heir of the Meadowes family. He was loved by most of his family and friends, save for the Blacks who seemed to detest the young child with a passion. Not that it bothered him since he was spoiled immensely by the Meadowes.

He showed magical abilities from a very early age and for as long as he could remember toys would wander about the room or easily come to him, but he always remained close to his older sister and the two of them had quite the penchant for trouble.

It hadn't been long until Cas had to go to school, Nici knew a little bit as to why his father was so apprehensive to let her go, but he was also devastated to see his older sister leave him, but he knew it was for the best and if any harm befell upon her that dad would take care of it.

But Nici was devastated that his sister left and for two years he remained in contact with her. Yet it was ultimately his time to go and he kind of routine that Cas went through when she went to Hogwarts.

He wished to be sorted into Gryffindor, so he could be around his older sister. That's where he wanted to be actually. Slytherin would make a good second choice since his mother and father were in it as well, but the sorting hat decided to place Nicodemus into Ravenclaw, he was a little withdrawn, being afraid of what would happen since he was away from his older sister and had to fend for himself.

He did well in school, pretty much keeping to himself, since he was more or less a loner and didn't have Cas around but maintained high OWLs and during the duration of his 5th through 7th year took the position of prefect.

After he had finished his schooling, he took a position at Hogwarts teaching astronomy. He enjoyed the subject and found himself growing quite fond of learn the stories behind the constellations and to see if he could find anything new in the sky. He really couldn't think of anything better than that.

Several years into his career, around 1985, he met Lyra Bagnold. Lyra was an aspiring magizoologist who was working at Hogsmeade for the time being for research. But Nicodemus knew that he was smitten for the gal the moment he saw her.

They continued dating and a year into the relationship, the two were engaged and wed on January 8, 1987. The newlyweds were rather in love and they devoted what free time had to each other. It was in March of 1989 that Lyra learned that the couple was expecting their first child and needless to say, Nicodemus was elated about it since he had wanted to be a father and have a family of his own.

On September 26, 1989, Lyra and Nicodemus welcomed a son, whom they named Alphard after his paternal grandfather, but unfortunately the small family of three would be soon torn part.

It happened during the Christmas hols when Lyra and Nicodemus went to visit his parents for the holiday. That was abruptly interrupted with what was supposed to be a hit on Alphard. Needless to say though, Nicodemus' father survived the attack, but Lyra did not, since she was the one who got hit rather than Alphard.

Needless to say the death of his wife took him rather hard and it fuelled his ire towards the Black family. Not knowing what to do when it came to raising a small child, he stayed close to his immediate family and sought their help.

It has been several years following it and Nici has tried his hardest to get over Lyra's death, but unsuccessfully. It doesn't help much that his son looks like her as well and that he still has a personal vendetta against the Blacks for what they did. He's just waiting for them to make one wrong move though but till then it's a matter of waiting.

What plot lines would you like to see with this character? Interactions with Cas, friends, maybe Cygnus and Black drama, IDK

Audition Piece
It's amazing to see the stars in the sky, especially if one knows the stories and origins behind the constellations and the other things in the sky, even if they are light years away.

I saw Lyra's constellation tonight though. From the legend of Orpheus whose lyre was sent up to the heavens after being murdered by the Bacchantes. It's an appropriate way to end the myth since Orpheus was well known for playing the lyre along with many other things.

Still, it brings back painful memories, looking at the constellation Lyra. Particularly because of what happened close to 7 years ago. Even more so, considering the constellation next to it. Cygnus. I try not to dwell on it but it's rather hard.

When you have a moment away from Sirona, I have to wonder if we could do coffee or something. Yes, I know we see each other on a daily basis but we need to do something on a sibling basis if you ask me.

Short Bio
Nicodemus Meadowes is the astronomy professor at Hogwarts and comes from a respectable pureblooded family who has made quite the name for themselves. Although life for him changed one Christmas seven years ago when he lost one of the people who was near and dear to him. Now he's used to being a single father and getting used to not falling in love again. Besides, his family comes first, and he'll do whatever he can to ensure they are happy.
